Passaic High School (PHS), Passaic Regional Exceptional Program (PREP), and Passaic Academy of Science and Engineering (PASE) students recently got a unique, firsthand look at how their city operates. On Youth in Government Day, these students traded their classrooms for the chambers of Passaic City Hall and the Board of Education, shadowing local officials and learning the ins and outs of municipal governance.
The day provided an invaluable opportunity for students to experience civic engagement in action. They followed elected officials, observed meetings, and participated in discussions, gaining a deeper understanding of the roles and responsibilities of those who shape their community. Students witnessed firsthand the complexities of local decision-making and the impact of government policies on their daily lives.
The event was organized to foster civic awareness and encourage youth participation in local government. Organizers believe that by providing students with firsthand experience, they can cultivate a future generation of informed and engaged citizens.
This was a fantastic opportunity to learn, engage, and make a difference in the community.
