In a thrilling display of talent and determination, Zariah Townsend of PASE has made history at the County Championships, cementing her status as one of the region’s top swimmers. Townsend finished 2nd in the 100 Butterfly and clinched 1st place in the 100 Breaststroke, making her mark as the very first swimmer from Passaic to break a county record in the 100 Breaststroke — a remarkable feat that toppled a 13-year-old record. Her performance earned her the prestigious title of Athlete of the Week from The Record, a testament to her hard work and dedication.
In addition to Townsend’s individual success, the PASE girls’ 200 Free Relay team made waves by breaking a six-year-old school record. The relay team, consisting of Fernanda Cuahult (PHS), Natalie Acatecatl (PHS), Susan Arango (PASE), and Zariah Townsend (PASE), pushed past their competition and left a lasting legacy in the pool.
But the record-breaking feats didn’t stop there. On the boys’ side, Hector Ramirez of PASE also achieved stellar results, securing 2nd place in the 50 Freestyle and 3rd place in the 100 Freestyle. In doing so, Ramirez shattered school records in both events, a remarkable achievement that showcases his growth and commitment to excellence.
Finally, the boys’ 400 Relay team — featuring Diego Cuahutle (PHS), JP Cordero (PASE), Brandon Leon (PREP), and Hector Ramirez (PASE) — displayed extraordinary teamwork and skill, rounding out a series of unforgettable performances for PASE athletes.
These outstanding accomplishments not only highlight the hard work and determination of each athlete but also underscore the growing prominence of Passaic Public Schools Athletics’ swimmers on the regional stage. With new records in place and a rising sense of achievement, our Varsity swim team continues to set the bar high for future generations of athletes.
