Each year, February 15 marks SRO Appreciation Day—a national moment to recognize the dedicated School Resource Officers who help keep school communities safe, supported, and connected. At School 9, students and staff came together to honor our own SROs with a heartfelt celebration filled with gratitude, creativity, and school spirit.
Although the official date fell during our a break, School 9 celebrated on Tuesday, February 17, when everyone returned to the building. In the days leading up to the event, students and staff quietly worked together to create a special surprise: a large appreciation bulletin board on the first floor, filled with handwritten thank‑you notes addressed to our SROs.
Teachers were invited to take a few minutes in their classes to have students write personal messages of thanks—notes recognizing the daily support, guidance, and positivity our School Resource Officers bring to the building. Students could write to either officer individually or express their appreciation more generally, as long as each message was addressed and signed. These notes were collected and assembled into a colorful display before dismissal on February 12 to ensure the surprise stayed secret.
The completed bulletin board, decorated with handwritten badges, thoughtful messages, and bold “Happy SRO Appreciation Day” lettering, greeted our SROs when they returned. A cluster of red and blue balloons added a celebratory touch, emphasizing the appreciation felt throughout the school community.
This simple but meaningful gesture showed our SROs just how valued they are at School 9. Their presence supports not only safety, but trust, mentorship, and the sense of belonging that makes our school a positive place to learn and grow.
School 9 extends a heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed—and an even bigger thank you to our SRO team for all they do every single day.
