Each year on March 11, high school students across North America mark National Promposal Day, a celebration of the creative, heartfelt, and often elaborate ways teens ask the big question: “Will you go to prom with me?”
What began as a fun trend has grown into a full‑on cultural moment, bringing excitement to hallways, classrooms, and social feeds everywhere.
The Art of the Promposal
Before choosing a tux, finding the perfect dress, or planning transportation for prom night, the journey begins with the invitation itself. Promposals have evolved into thoughtful gestures—some simple, some theatrical, and many deeply meaningful. From handmade signs and themed puns to coordinated performances, students find all kinds of inventive ways to make the moment special.
And once the question is asked, the rest of the planning begins:
• Picking formalwear and accessories
• Learning a few dance moves—or asking a parent for help
• Deciding between borrowing a family car, riding with friends, or booking a limo
Prom may take preparation, but National Promposal Day focuses on the first and most memorable step.

The History of National Promposal Day
Men’s Wearhouse established National Promposal Day in 2016 to inspire students to make their prom invitations memorable and creative. That same year, the National Day Calendar officially proclaimed March 11 as the annual observance.
Since then, promposals have continued to grow in popularity, becoming a cherished part of prom season traditions nationwide.
