This summer, the City of Passaic turned up the energy with its “Fútbol Friendly: Soccer Ready” watch party series—bringing the community together to celebrate the global game right in the heart of the city.
Organized under the leadership of Mayor Hector C. Lora and the Passaic City Council, the event series transformed local spaces into lively gathering spots where families, students, and soccer fans could watch international matchups on big screens.
From Garibaldi Plaza to Third Ward Park and beyond, each location offered more than just a game—it created an experience. With free entry, live screenings, food options, and a welcoming atmosphere, these watch parties became a go-to summer destination for residents of all ages.
The schedule featured a wide range of exciting international matchups, including teams like Brazil, Morocco, Mexico, South Korea, USA, Australia, Spain, and Uruguay.
Games were held across multiple days and locations, allowing the community to stay engaged throughout the tournament.
Beyond the matches themselves, what stood out most was the sense of unity. Families brought chairs, friends gathered to cheer for their teams, and neighbors connected in a shared celebration of culture, sport, and community pride. The series wasn’t just about soccer—it was about creating meaningful, positive experiences in public spaces.
As the tournament progressed into playoff rounds and ultimately the finals, the excitement continued to build, culminating in championship games held in July at Pulaski Park.
Events like this highlight how Passaic continues to invest in community engagement, offering inclusive, family-friendly opportunities that bring people together. Whether you’re a die-hard soccer fan or just looking for a great way to spend a summer evening, the city’s watch parties delivered something for everyone.
Looking Ahead
With strong turnout and positive community feedback, events like the Fútbol Friendly watch parties show how powerful local programming can be in building school and community connections—something students and families across Passaic can continue to benefit from in the future.
