Literacy Changes Lives
Being able to read, write, and communicate confidently opens doors to education, employment, and community involvement. Yet many adults in our communities still need support in building these essential skills. Literacy New Jersey works to close this gap by providing free instruction in reading, writing, math, and English language learning for adults across the state.
Trained volunteer tutors work with learners in small group settings, helping them build practical skills that lead to real opportunities. Students set personal goals such as earning a better job, supporting their children in school, preparing for citizenship, or becoming more active in their communities.
The impact is clear. This past year, 2,293 students in the LiteracyNJ network developed citizenship skills, increased community involvement, and registered to vote or voted for the first time. These outcomes strengthen not only individual lives, but families and neighborhoods as well.
Passaic High School DECA is proud to support Literacy New Jersey and its mission to ensure every adult has the opportunity to read, write, and communicate effectively. Literacy changes everything.
La alfabetización cambia vidas
Poder leer, escribir y comunicarse con confianza abre puertas a la educación, el empleo y la participación en la comunidad. Sin embargo, muchos adultos en nuestras comunidades aún necesitan apoyo para desarrollar estas habilidades esenciales. Literacy New Jersey trabaja para cerrar esta brecha ofreciendo instrucción gratuita en lectura, escritura, matemáticas y aprendizaje del idioma inglés para adultos en todo el estado.
Tutores voluntarios capacitados trabajan con estudiantes en grupos pequeños, ayudándolos a desarrollar habilidades prácticas que conducen a oportunidades reales. Los estudiantes establecen metas personales como obtener un mejor empleo, apoyar a sus hijos en la escuela, prepararse para la ciudadanía o participar más en sus comunidades.
El impacto es claro. Este último año, 2,293 estudiantes de la red LiteracyNJ desarrollaron habilidades de ciudadanía, aumentaron su participación comunitaria y se registraron para votar o votaron por primera vez. Estos logros fortalecen no solo vidas individuales, sino también familias y comunidades.
