Passaic High School DECA is proud to participate in the State Community Service Project, an initiative that encourages chapters to make a positive impact in their communities. This year, they chose to support LiteracyNJ, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving adult literacy across New Jersey. LiteracyNJ provides essential programs and resources to help adults strengthen their reading, writing, and communication skills—skills that open doors to employment, education, and a brighter future.
The chapter has set an ambitious fundraising goal of $1,000, and they are working hard to make it happen! Every dollar raised will help LiteracyNJ continue its mission of transforming lives through literacy.
To kick off this initiative, DECA members organized a school-wide fundraising event featuring a delicious assortment of empanadas and desserts. The event was more than just a culinary treat—it was a celebration of community and purpose. Students, staff, and faculty came together to enjoy great food while supporting a cause that truly matters.
Every purchase brings them closer to their goal and helps LiteracyNJ provide free tutoring, educational materials, and personalized support for adults striving to improve their literacy skills. These programs don’t just teach reading and writing—they empower individuals to achieve independence, pursue careers, and participate fully in society.
Literacy is the foundation for opportunity. For many adults, the inability to read or write can be a barrier to employment, healthcare, and even everyday tasks. By supporting LiteracyNJ, DECA is helping to break down those barriers and create pathways to success. When individuals gain literacy skills, they gain confidence, self-sufficiency, and the ability to contribute to their communities.
Passaic High School DECA believes that together, we can make a difference—one word at a time. Your support, whether through donations or participation in their events, helps them reach their goal and change lives. Thank you for standing with them and LiteracyNJ in this important mission.
