On May 29, 2026, students from Passaic High School traveled to William Paterson University to participate in the Passaic County Spring Teen Summit, a county-wide event focused on youth leadership, mental health, and community impact.
Held in one of the university’s large conference ballrooms, the summit brought together students from across Passaic County, with each school seated at designated tables throughout the room. Passaic High School students were grouped together at tables labeled with PHS identifiers, joining hundreds of peers from neighboring schools in a shared space for learning, collaboration, and discussion.
A Day of Learning and Leadership
The day featured a series of speakers and presentations centered on mental health awareness and youth empowerment. Students listened to keynote speakers who encouraged them to reflect on their experiences and take action in their communities. One presentation focused on the message “Stop Running. Start Listening.”, emphasizing the importance of understanding emotions rather than ignoring them.
Throughout the summit, students participated in interactive activities at their tables, engaging in conversations, group discussions, and guided exercises that promoted communication and teamwork. At several points, students stood and interacted with others across the room, creating an energetic and collaborative environment.
Student Voices Take the Stage
One of the highlights of the event was the opportunity for students to share their work and ideas. Groups from different schools presented projects and participated in discussions in front of the full audience. Students from Passaic High School and other schools were recognized during presentations, reinforcing the event’s focus on student voice and leadership.
The summit also included a focus on the PSA (Public Service Announcement) initiative, where students use video and media to promote messages around mental health and prevention. These presentations allowed students to showcase their creativity and connect their classroom work to real-world issues.
Building Connections Across Schools
Seated at round tables alongside peers, students from across the county had the chance to meet new people and exchange ideas. The structured seating and group activities encouraged collaboration between schools that may not regularly interact, helping students build new connections and broaden their perspectives.
A Look at the Experience
Students spent the day fully immersed in the summit environment—from listening to presenters and participating in activities to sharing meals together. Breakfast and lunch were provided, with students gathering at their tables to eat while continuing conversations and activities.
Lanyards and ID badges identified each participant, reinforcing the professional, conference-style atmosphere of the event. The setting at William Paterson University also gave students a glimpse of a college campus environment, adding another layer to the experience.
Representing Passaic High School
Passaic High School students took part in every aspect of the day, representing their school among peers from across the county. From participating in discussions to presenting in front of the audience, students demonstrated leadership, engagement, and a willingness to share their voices.
The day concluded with students leaving the summit with new ideas, stronger connections, and a deeper understanding of how they can make an impact in their school and community.
